UAW Local 291 Ends Strike at Cummins in Oshkosh: UAW Local 291 members who work at Cummins in Oshkosh have voted to accept a new union contract and end a nearly 4-month long strike which began on March 18. The new three-year deal includes wage increases and addresses concerns about mandatory weekend work.
“Being on strike for 14-and-a-half weeks affects things a little bit, but the strike was effective because we got more out of them than I think they were initially willing to give,” said UAW Local 291 President Ryan Compton. “I'm proud of all the members of the Local 291. I'm going to claim this strike as a victory. It’s never a complete victory, but I think we got them to move on some things that they really didn’t want to move on.”
UAW Local 291 members showed unparalleled solidarity, strength, and determination to get a deal and never wavered in standing together and standing strong on the line. For over 14-weeks, workers held the strike line throughout snow, sleet, rain, freezing temperatures, storms and even heat waves.
Thank you to all the local unions, union members, community members and elected officials who joined and supported UAW workers throughout the strike. By donating supplies and needed household items, showing up with food and coffee, writing letters, hosting solidarity cookouts and many more acts of solidarity, working people stood together as one united labor movement.
A special shoutout to the NorthEast Wisconsin Building and Construction Trades Council, who hosted multiple solidarity cookouts and brat fries for UAW local 291 members during the strike.

Congratulations to UAW Local 291 members for standing strong and reaching a deal with Cummins. The solidarity and grit demonstrated during this strike reflects our commitment to fight for better wages, working conditions and a union voice for all workers everywhere.
As our brothers and sisters of UAW Local 95 at Mercyhealth East Clinic make the difficult decision to strike, they do so with the knowledge that Wisconsin’s union members are standing shoulder to shoulder with them. We look forward to a new contract that addresses their legitimate concerns, not only for the good of the workers, but also the well-being of patients in their care.
