Defending Democracy

America’s labor movement is determined and prepared to defend our democracy. We are confident that in the days to come, voters will freely exercise our democratic right to have our voices heard and our votes counted using the process we have relied on for 200 years. A legitimate election is one in which everyone eligible to vote can do so, every ballot cast is counted, and the voters decide our next leaders.

The labor movement stands ready to ensure that everyone who can vote, does, and that every vote is counted. In Wisconsin:

  • All voters will need to bring a photo ID to vote.
  • Voters can register to vote at their polling place on Election Day, Tuesday November 3, with proof of residence.
  • Absentee mail ballots must be received by clerks by 8:00 p.m. on Election DayNovember 3. You can return your absentee ballot to a drop box or to your clerk’s office.
  • Lookup your polling place.
  • Join our virtual phone banks to get out the vote at wisaflcio.org/mobilize.

ELECTION PROTECTION HOTLINE: If you or anyone you know needs help with voting, or has a question about something happening at a polling place, you can call or text 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) to speak with a trained Election Protection volunteer who can give you advice.

This is an election unlike any in our history. Voters are overcoming voter suppression tactics and voting safely during a global pandemic. We are already seeing historic numbers of early voting. Local election officials will be working around the clock to accurately and safely count every vote.

In our American democracy, every vote counts. We will likely not know the results of this election on Tuesday night and will continue to monitor the situation closely. The cornerstone of our democracy is that everyone be able to vote freely and fairly, and have our vote counted -- no matter how long it takes.
