Every April 28, the unions of the AFL-CIO pause to remember and honor all workers killed on the job in the previous year as well call for safe workplaces for all. We come together at Workers Memorial Day observances across Wisconsin to call for action on workplace hazards that cause unnecessary injury, illness, and death. We stand united to strengthen workers’ rights and protections, and demand resources needed for worker protection and job safety enforcement.

Each year, thousands of workers are killed and millions more suffer injury or illness because of our jobs. Far too many workers die from preventable hazards and many more workers become ill from exposure to toxic chemicals at work. This April 28, we reflect on the courageous actions of working people to fight for safer working conditions and focus on the need to organize for safe jobs for all of America’s workers.

As union workers, we will continue the fight for stronger protections for all workers in their workplaces and for stronger laws that hold employers accountable when they do not keep workers safe.
