The United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers was founded in 1935.

Since its founding in 1935, the UAW has consistently developed innovative partnerships with employers and negotiated industry-leading wages and benefits for its members. UAW members have benefited from a number of collective bargaining breakthroughs, including:

  • The first employer-paid health insurance plan for industrial workers.
  • The first cost-of-living allowances.
  • A pioneering role in product quality improvements.
  • Landmark job and income security provisions.
  • Comprehensive training and educational programs.

The UAW has a strong past of standing up for members through direct action. We have a proud history of sit down strikes at numerous locations across the country.

Notably, UAW 833 at Kohler recently went on strike and came out stronger in the end. Many times you’ll see us out at plant gates talking to members and spreading information on everything from working conditions to electoral politics.
