In January of 2021, the Milwaukee Chapter of Pride at Work was formed and founding members began to establish a framework for growth in upcoming years.

Pride at Work Milwaukee hit the ground running in its first year. After drafting a chapter constitution, adopting bylaws, and holding elections for officers, monthly meetings focused on organizing new members, chapter goals, future events, and fundraising. Those conversations resulted in an online resource page, private Facebook group with 27 members, and printed materials that included "workplace protections" and "how to be an ally" leaflets

A COVID-conscious team-building social event at the Estabrook Beer Garden was a welcome and much needed chance to see each other in person, away from the online world of Zoom.

In 2022, Pride at Work collaborated with a coalition of organizations led by the Human Rights Campaign to host the Candidate Forum For Equality which featured Democratic candidates in the U.S. Senate Primary around LGBTQ+ issues of importance. The local Chapter held a watch party for the forum to watch together and discuss afterwards.

Along with the MALC Young Workers Committee, Pride at Work- Milwaukee Area Chapter co-hosted a movie night of “Pride.” The movie followed "U.K. gay activists work to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984." Not only was the movie fantastic, but it was a great opportunity for team building.

In 2022, Pride at Work- Milwaukee Chapter President Robyn Schultz from IATSE Local 18 represented the group at both the National Pride at Work Convention and the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Convention. Robyn used her strong voice for equality and organizing talents to speak up for a more fair and equitable labor movement for everyone.

During October, the Milwaukee Area Labor Council and Pride at Work are hosting "Drag Out the Vote" at LaCage on October 15th and Art*Bar on October 26th to call attention to the importance of being registered for the November election. CLICK HERE for more info- spread the word and bring a friend!
