Labor Spotlight- Kwami Barnes

Born Feb 9th 1975 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Kwami Barnes grew up on North side of the city in Rufus King neighborhood. Growing up with his Grandmother, watching her serve the community, friends and family members inspired him to do the same throughout his life.

Kwami got active with in his union, CWA Local 4603, in 2009 where he began to serve his union family. He has served as Steward and Chief Steward for 12 years, and is also a member of CWA’s Legislative , Women and Equity, Community service, and Organizing committees. Kwami especially enjoys his work as a canvasser during election seasons. He loves getting out in the community to meet and talk with people about the importance standing up making your voice heard by voting. Many people have sacrificed their lives for the right for all to participate in our democratic process. Kwami is a graduate of CWA Minority Leadership Training and Union Builder award recipient.
