Amid the unprecedented attack of the Supreme Court, the Milwaukee Area Labor Council stands with workers, calls on ALL lawmakers to make it easier to join together in unions.

The political attack at the Supreme Court in the case Janus v. AFSCME Council 31 threatens to undermine our freedoms and rig our democracy and economy even further against working people.

At a time when our democracy and economy are rigged to overwhelmingly favor the wealthy and corporate interests, America needs unions now more than ever.

We call on ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS to stand up for working people and make it easier for them to join together in unions.

Americans are more productive and working more than ever before, yet we are falling behind and in many cases struggling to get by. Unions level the playing field for working people, by raising wages and increasing access to health care and retirement security, especially for women and people of color who are disproportionately hurt by this rigged system.

And unions strengthen our communities by ensuring better training, equipment and staffing levels for dedicated public workers like first responders, nurses and child protective service workers.

While the billionaires, CEOs and corporate interests behind the Janus case use their power and wealth to further rig our democracy and economy against working people and our communities, we need principled leadership from our entire Legislature to protect our freedoms. It’s time for them to recommit to America’s workers today by making it easier for working people to join together in unions.
