The last time we gathered for this conference in 2020, we watched as COVID-19 shut down the NBA, our conference, and basically the nation as a whole. Its SO nice to be together in person again.

AFL-CIO Labor Liaison Ann McNeary kicked off the conference with South Central Federation of Labor President Kevin Gundlach.

2 Community Service Project Awards were given to the Greater West Central Labor Council and to the Waukesha County Labor Council and the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council. The highly important Ralph A. Jirikowic Award was given to Jeff Starr from IBEW 388, Mark Westphalia from the Fox Valley Labor Council, and Kevin Turner from SMART 18.

WI AFLCIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale talked about solidarity in action and what that looks like across the State of Wisconsin.

Don Taylor from the School of Workers got participants talking to each other with an icebreaker. After a break we heard from WI AFL-CIO Endorsed Candidate for WI Court of Appeals District 2, Judge Lori Kornblum.

Participants got important updates from WI Alliance for Retired Americans Executive Director Alex Brower and President Gary Mitchell. Check out the work done by the Alliance to fight for retiree issues, activate retired union members, and support worker fights.

The day was closed by newly elected Assembly Minority Leader, Representative Greta Neubauer (D-66) with a State of the Assembly update and call to action.

Day 2 of the conference will feature great speakers in the morning, 2 sessions of workshops, and illegal updates from the Previant Law Firm.
